“Adding Knowledge for Lawyers
Attitude and Behavior”
As an organization, held by law expert in year 1991, IPBA
have proofed its consistency and its existences in Asia Pacific
through several programs of stratagem, increasing its quality
and exchanging information of developments of law in every
countries. Members listed in IPBA have increased every year,
IPBA was even proofed of its attention towards progress for
lawyers from developing countries and potential young lawyers.
The opportunities offered by IPBA through conferences and
scholarship known as M.S. Lin Scholarship have add up my knowledge
about attitude and lawyers behavior that can be excepted to
many other countries, including Asia Pacific. We were shown
a concrete example of counterpart between countries, without
making differences of age and purely base on nature selection,
merit system. Example, I first received my M.S Lin Scholarship
for young lawyer’s category, while I was 27 years old,
after one year later I was invited as a speaker in IPBA conference
in New Delhi, to do a presentation on my paper.
It seems knowledge and experience from global organization
was precious, I have gain more colleagues from many different
countries, networking from the international law firm, jurist
nor in-house counsel from many different multinational countries.
Honestly I have gained a lot of business references from my
colleagues, I also have united lawyers who are willing to
work together. As if two years ago where my colleagues from
one of a big law firm in Melbourne have an intention of bringing
my client to do a project in Hong Kong and Japan, I have succeeded
in giving them references to two well known law firms in both
countries. The impact was the nearness between me and our
law firm as after one year later our firm were being references
by three of those law firm.
At least organization for profession can give a positive
impact for IPBA progress with its quantity and quality, with
offers of interesting practice areas in one committee, organized
by competent lawyers, representing from many different countries.
Seeing zest and moments offered, it seems IPBA can be accepted
in Indonesia because of its long presents, contains with no
exclusive members and its diversity, therefore members are
recommended to speak English in order to communicate.
International advocates will need local advocates because
of its limit of access, practice experience in Indonesian
court include the limit of prerequirment to be an advocate
according to the advocates’ legislation.
If law instrument is required and no yet achievable, local
advocates can compare with the availability of law in other
countries especially countries who has the same civil law
system as in Indonesia.
